Synopsis

A young boxer wishes to enter a fighting tournament and enlists in a martial arts school. However, a gangster is terrorizing the town and their paths are destined to meet. He must use the sacred ‘Iron Palm’ technique to achieve his goals.

Program Note

From Chung Chang-wha, the Frst Korean director of Hong Kong martial arts Flms, Five Fingers of Death was the Frst Hong Kong flm to be exported to America and the frst to reach No. 1 at the U.S. box offce in 1973. Chung Chang-wha’s signature flm, it is apparently one of Quentin Tarantino’s favorites, from which he used the soundtrack and characteristic effects in Kill Bill. (MO Eun-young)

Made his debut with A Street of Temptation (1954), and came to attention with A sunny field in 1960. Showed talent as an action film director and started working for Hong Kong? Shaw brothers since 1968. Retired in 1976 with A Judge, but remained active as a producer. His films include Nodaji (1961), and Sunset glow at the Sarbin River (1965).
